Celebrating Diversity and Empowerment: Embracing International Women’s Day in Accounting at INPACT Global
At INPACT, we are committed to fostering an inclusive workplace where every voice is heard and valued. As we mark International Women’s Day, we reflect on the remarkable achievements of women in the field of accounting and the profound impact they have made globally. We honor and celebrate the contributions of women within our organization and beyond, recognizing their resilience, creativity, and unwavering dedication to excellence. Hear from some of our talented women at INPACT as they share their insights and experiences.
Reflecting on her journey, Claudia Stadler, partner at cSt causa GmbH, Austria, acknowledges the improvements in balancing career and family responsibilities, yet notes the lingering challenge of societal recognition. She shares, „While the balance between career and family has undoubtedly improved over the years, the recognition of this balance within society remains a significant challenge, highlighting the need for broader societal acceptance.“
Looking ahead, Claudia emphasizes the importance of continued efforts to support and empower women in accounting roles. „While we’ve made significant strides, there’s still much work to be done. As a managing director, I’m committed to prioritizing performance and expertise, regardless of gender. It’s essential that we provide young women with the encouragement and resources they need to thrive in our industry.“
In offering advice to aspiring women in accounting, Claudia underscores the significance of self-confidence and networking. „Believe in yourself and your abilities. Set clear boundaries and advocate for your professional integrity. Networking is also crucial—building connections within the industry not only provides support but also opens doors to new opportunities for growth and advancement.“
„I’ve always strived for recognition in the professional field,“ says Olena Mykhailova, partner at Device Group, Ukraine. „Auditing became an opportunity not only to showcase my skills but also to actively contribute to business development. Receiving recognition in this field has been a source of inspiration and motivation for my continuous professional growth.“
“Advice for aspiring auditors? Don’t let your gender determine your success,” emphasizes Olena. „Believe in your abilities and strive for success. Despite potential stereotypes, women can achieve great results in this field thanks to their perseverance, attention to detail, and diligence.“ Mentorship also plays a role. „Working with women is more conducive to learning,“ Olena reflects. „They are more attentive to details.“
Looking ahead, Olena sees opportunities. „The auditing profession is evolving,“ she observes. „Women can adapt and continue to thrive, thanks to their unique qualities and professionalism.“
Marie Sidney Datiles, partner at DC&A, Philippines, takes on the conversation. „In the Philippines, I witness numerous women excelling in the industry, particularly at local conferences and seminars. However, the challenge lies not in gender issues but in dwindling interest among younger generations in pursuing accountancy. Interestingly, our office predominantly comprises women, reflecting the trend where male applicants often withdraw their applications despite being hired.“
When it comes to offering advice to women aspiring to excel in the accounting field, this is what Marie had to share: „Firstly, recognize your strengths and qualities that contribute to the profession. Secondly, acknowledge your weaknesses without allowing them to hinder your aspirations. Lastly, value your worth without letting it inflate your ego. Remain steadfast in your goals, even in the face of adversity or discouragement. Let your passion and determination guide you towards success, regardless of obstacles or criticism.“
Looking at the future of the accounting industry in terms of gender equality and inclusivity, Jori Culp, partner at Smoker, Smith & Associates, US, shared: „There have been several studies and surveys here in the US that show that women actually make up more of the industry workforce. We see this in our own office, with 60% of our professionals being female. I only see this trend continuing, especially as the industry has shifted to a more hybrid work environment, allowing women more flexibility to maintain a work-life balance.“
„I think the times of a male-dominated field are closing,“ remarks Jori. „Especially as the younger generations begin to enter the workforce. With enhanced technology and a more hybrid-tolerant environment, the profession continues to be a great choice for women who aspire to excel despite historical imbalances.“
Our members’ insights serve as a reminder of the progress achieved and the ongoing journey towards gender equality within the accounting profession. As we celebrate International Women’s Day, let us reaffirm our commitment to creating a more inclusive and equitable environment for all.
